Configuration :: Scanner
Scan
Here you define the basic behavior of the scan routine for an on-demand scan. If you select certain directories to be scanned with an on-demand scan, depending on the configuration the scanner scans:
with a certain scanning power (priority),
also boot sectors and main memory,
certain or all boot sectors and the main memory,
all or selected files in the directory.
Boot sectors
With an on-demand scan, the scanner can also scan all boot sectors of the drives - hard disks, CD and disk drives, MO and ZIP drives. The following option is possible:
Boot sectors of selected drives
Files
The scanner can use a filter to scan only those files with a certain extension (type).
All files
Note
If All files is enabled, the button File extensions cannot be selected.Smart Extensions
If this option is enabled, the selection of the files scanned for viruses or unwanted programs is automatically chosen by Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic. This means that Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic decides respective of their content, wether the files are scanned or not. This procedure is somewhat slower than Use file extension list, but more secure, since not only on the basis of the file extension is scanned. This option is enabled as the default setting and is recommended.
Note
If Smart Extensions is enabled, the button File extensions cannot be selected.Use file extension list
Note
If this option is enabled and you have deleted all entries from the list with file extensions, this is indicated with the text "No file extensions" under the button File extensions.File extensions
Note
Please note that the default list may vary from version to version.Memory
Begin scan with memory
Important
This function should always be enabled in order to obtain maximum protection against viruses or unwanted programs. If a virus or unwanted program is active in the memory, all files that are scanned may be infected.Priority
Low
If this option is enabled, the scanner receives little processor time from the operating system and works slower. This option is enabled as the default setting and is recommended.
Normal
If this option is enabled, the scanner receives normal priority from the operating system.
High
If this option is enabled, the scanner receives a lot of processor time from the operating system and works fast, whereas other applications become slower.
